Bette and Buddy Levenson - A legacy that will not be forgotten

Last month the Parkinson’s community lost a true champion.  Bette Lee Levenson of Chevy Chase, MD passed away on Monday, August 2, 2010.  For those of you who did not have the pleasure of knowing Bette, she was a dedicated supporter of the Parkinson's Action Network (PAN) for many years.  Her husband, Buddy, died from complications of Parkinson’s in May 2000.  Both were vigilant supporters of PAN and courageous fighters for better treatments and a cure.

For many years the Levenson family sponsored an annual dinner to raise money for Parkinson’s research in honor of Buddy.  With the goal of unifying the Parkinson’s community in the Washington, DC area, the Levenson family merged its dinner with the Morris K. Udall Awards Dinner.  For many years, “The Buddy Award” was given to an outstanding member of the Parkinson’s community.

Bette and Buddy will be missed, but their legacy lives on in the work that our advocates and supporters accomplish every day.

We are honored that the Levenson family has designated PAN as a recipient for gifts in her memory.  Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to the Levenson family for their support of the Parkinson’s community.
