PAN Mourns the Loss of Former Nebraska Congressman Peter Hoagland

The Parkinson's Action Network (PAN) mourns the loss of former Nebraska Congressman Peter Hoagland, who passed away on Tuesday, October 30 at the age of 65. He fought a valiant five-year battle with Parkinson's disease.
 
PAN Recognized with National Achievement Award

The Parkinson’s Action Network (PAN) has been honored as the recipient of the National Achievement Award, given by the board of directors at the Genetics Policy Institute (GPI) for its work on advocating for funding of stem cell research.  The award will be presented at “The Stem Cell Summit,” which is a joint project of the Harvard Stem Cell Institute, Burrill Life Sciences Media Group, and GPI.  The summit is a two-day event, to be held October 2-3 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston.
 
FDA Approves Exelon Patch to Treat PD Dementia and Alzheimer's

Exelon Patch (rivastigmine transdermal system) has received its first  approval in the United States as an innovative way to deliver an effective medicine for mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease patients through a skin patch instead of an oral capsule.  The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) also approved the use of Exelon Patch in treating patients with mild to moderate Parkinson's disease dementia.
 
PAN Expresses Disappointment in President's Veto of Stem Cell Bill

PAN has expressed its disappointment in President Bush’s veto of the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act (S.5), legislation that would have eased restrictions on federally-funded embryonic stem cell research.  A similar bill was vetoed in July of 2006. 
 
Researchers Discover Drug That May Impede Parkinson's

(Courtesy of Medical Research News) A team of researchers at Northwestern University have found in a new study that the blood pressure drug isradipine slowed down the progress of Parkinson's disease in genetically altered lab mice, and in some cases prevented it from occurring.
 
Parkinson's Community Petitions Bush to Support Stem Cell Research

The Parkinson’s Action Network (PAN) sent a petition to President Bush on Thursday, urging the President not to veto legislation to ease restrictions on federally-funded embryonic stem cell research (S.5), but instead sign the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act into law.  
 
Michael J. Fox to Attend President's State of the Union Address

The Parkinson's Action Network (PAN) announced that Rep. Jim Langevin (D-R.I.), has invited Michael J. Fox to attend the President's State of the Union Address, as his guest.  The State of the Union is scheduled for Tuesday, January 23, in Washington, D.C.

"In what can only be described as desperation measures, the White House Domestic Policy Office's report on the latest in non-embryonic stem cell research and recent reports that a White House Executive Order is pending, make it obvious that this Administration is working overtime to mislead the American public.
