On January 9, Monnie Lindsay, PAN’s Nebraska State Coordinator and member of PAN’s Board of Directors was featured during a television report on a breakthrough that researchers at the University of Nebraska Medical Center believe could lead to a vaccine that would treat Parkinson’s disease. breakthrough in stem cell research, in which scientific researchers
have created embryonic-like cells from ordinary human skin cells,
without using embryos through the process of cloning.

Judiciary Committee of the Nebraska State Legislature in Lincoln.

participated in a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) hosted conference on
November 6-7 entitled “Assessing Drug Benefits and Risks in Regulatory
Decisions: Framing the Need, Evaluating the Tools, and Deciding Next Steps,” in
Silver Spring, Md. The conference attendees were
primarily FDA regulators and representatives from the pharmaceutical and
biotech industries. |

Parkinson’s Action Network, along with the Alliance for Aging Research and the
Alzheimer’s Association hosted a congressional briefing on the growing burden
of neurological diseases and the promise of innovation. Amy Comstock Rick, PAN’s CEO, and Paula Wittekind,
PAN’s Florida State Coordinator, discussed the needs of the Parkinson’s disease
community with Congressional staff and other patient advocacy organizations.

The U.S. Department of Defense has announced partial allocation of its $900 million to use for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The funding came on May 25, when the President signed into law the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Bill that provides, among other things, the funding for treatment and research of PTSD and TBI. |
