PAN's Monnie Lindsay Featured in Local Television Report

On January 9, Monnie Lindsay, PAN’s Nebraska State Coordinator and member of PAN’s Board of Directors was featured during a television report on a breakthrough that researchers at the University of Nebraska Medical Center believe could lead to a vaccine that would treat Parkinson’s disease.  Lindsay was interviewed by Fox affiliate KPTM in Omaha, Neb.  To view the written story and the television report, click here.

The Parkinson’s Action Network (PAN) is pleased by the news of a breakthrough in stem cell research, in which scientific researchers have created embryonic-like cells from ordinary human skin cells, without using embryos through the process of cloning.

FDA Conference Remarks of PAN Congressional Coordinator Greg Wasson

The Parkinson’s Action Network participated in a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) hosted conference on November 6-7 entitled “Assessing Drug Benefits and Risks in Regulatory Decisions: Framing the Need, Evaluating the Tools, and Deciding Next Steps,” in Silver Spring, Md.  The conference attendees were primarily FDA regulators and representatives from the pharmaceutical and biotech industries.

On September 12, the Parkinson’s Action Network, along with the Alliance for Aging Research and the Alzheimer’s Association hosted a congressional briefing on the growing burden of neurological diseases and the promise of innovation.  Amy Comstock Rick, PAN’s CEO, and Paula Wittekind, PAN’s Florida State Coordinator, discussed the needs of the Parkinson’s disease community with Congressional staff and other patient advocacy organizations.
 
Parkinson's Disease Researchers Can Benefit From Newly-Created Grants

The U.S. Department of Defense has announced partial allocation of its $900 million to use for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).   The funding came on May 25, when the President signed into law the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Bill that provides, among other things, the funding for treatment and research of PTSD and TBI. 
 
PAN and Coalition for a Stronger FDA Applaud FDA Budget Proposal

The Coalition for a Stronger FDA, of which the Parkinson’s Action Network (PAN) is a member organization, has voiced its appreciation to members of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee, led by Chairman Herbert Kohl and Ranking Member Robert Bennett, for their efforts to increase the Food and Drug Administration’s budget.
