The Parkinson’s Action Network (PAN) has been honored as the recipient of the National Achievement Award, given by the board of directors at the Genetics Policy Institute (GPI) for its work on advocating for funding of stem cell research. The award will be presented at “The Stem Cell Summit,” which is a joint project of the Harvard Stem Cell Institute, Burrill Life Sciences Media Group, and GPI. The summit is a two-day event, to be held October 2-3 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston. |

Exelon Patch (rivastigmine transdermal system) has received its first approval in the United States as an innovative way to deliver
an effective medicine for mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease patients
through a skin patch instead of an oral capsule. The Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) also approved the use of Exelon Patch in treating
patients with mild to moderate Parkinson's disease dementia.

PAN has expressed its disappointment in President Bush’s veto of the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act (S.5), legislation that would have eased restrictions on federally-funded embryonic stem cell research. A similar bill was vetoed in July of 2006.
