Connect with your elected officials this August

Congress is scheduled to be on summer recess August 3 - September 8, and Members of Congress will be returning home to their states and districts. This is a great opportunity to connect with your elected officials and members of their staff to discuss the federal funding priorities of the Parkinson’s community, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the Department of Defense Parkinson’s research program.

There are a number of ways that you can reach out to your Members of Congress and their staff to make your voice heard, from scheduling meetings in district and state offices to sending messages via social media and letters to editor to attending town halls and inviting your Members to local events.

No matter how you choose to engage, it is critical for the Parkinson’s community to deliver a strong message regarding the importance of preserving and strengthening federal funding for research. Because of automatic, across-the-board spending cuts (sequestration) that went into effect in March, research funding for diseases like Parkinson’s has already faced cuts this year. We can’t afford to let more cuts happen!
