Recess: Building a Relationship with Congress
The first step is identifying your Members of Congress. House and Senate sites are both good resources – www.house.gov and www.senate.gov. PAN’s website also includes a place for you to search for your Members of Congress.
Before reaching out to your Members, do some research first. Learn more about them and see if you can connect to them on some personal level. Maybe you attended the same school or place of worship. Find out where their district or state-wide offices are and who the main point of contact there is.
Call the district office and introduce yourself. Ask to be added to mailing lists so you can find out about upcoming events such as town hall meetings. Sign up for newsletters and start following the Member on social media.
