On September 10 and 11, PAN CEO Amy Comstock Rick spoke at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke’s (NINDS) Annual Nonprofit Forum. This year’s forum, Progress through Partnership, emphasized the role nonprofits play in linking scientists at NINDS with the patient community for better research outcomes.
Amy and several PAN staff were in attendance for an engaging series of sessions. Amy shared examples of organizational structures that work during a session titled, “Nonprofit Success Stories.” Dr. Kathy Hudson, deputy director for science, outreach and policy at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), gave a great presentation on the BRAIN Initiative .
The second day began with an insider’s view of the NINDS Advisory Council, which Amy serves on, and later on attendees heard from representatives of NIH’s small business program and rare diseases consortium. A great discussion was also had around how nonprofits could reach out more to other important federal agencies, like the Food and Drug Administration.
