Do you live in or know someone who lives in one of the congressional districts that follow:

5th Rep. John E. Peterson (R) 12th Rep. John P. Murtha (D)

14th Rep. Mike Doyle (D) 16th Rep. Joseph R. Pitts (R) 18th Rep. Tim Murphy (R)

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP

Parkinson’s disease is like a thief in the night insidiously robbing motor and non-motor abilities. Gone are the days of sitting idly by and being a patient at the mercy of others. All of us, according to our abilities, must step up to the plate and advocate for a cure.

The Parkinson's Action Network devotes a great amount of time requesting funds for research performed by the National Institutes of Health. Basic medical research is performed by the NIH. The Department of Defense receives our requests every year to continue their research into neurological conditions. The funds we request are voted on by our elected officials.

Those of us who still have a voice must speak up, not only for ourselves, but also for those who no longer have a voice. Many of them spoke up for as long as they could.

PAN needs volunteers in all of Pennsylvania's congressional districts to do whatever they are able to spread our message of the need for a cure. This can be done by writing letters, sending emails, calling or meeting in person your elected officials. You may also write letters to the editor of your local paper.

Telling your personal story to everyone, whether they are:

Elected Officials The Public Your Family & Friends

This is a very effective and actually the best way to get the message across. Although facts and figures are important, putting a face on PD is vital to get the funding we need for medical research.

PAN does not in any way endorse political candidates or get involved in political campaigns. We take our grassroots movement for a cure to our elected officials because it is our federal government that is responsible for the basic research into cures for diseases. Private companies only get involved after research with federal funding shows enough promise for the private companies to use their dollars.
