Parkinson's Advocacy in Oregon
Through our partnership with Parkinson's Action Network, Parkinson's Resources of Oregon (PRO) works to ensure that the Parkinson's community of the Northwest has a voice in Washington D.C. and that the issues and problems associated with this debilitating disease receive appropriate attention from federal policy makers.
On the local level, PROs Advocacy Committee is hard at work as well. Recent initiatives include:
Increasing awareness among local legislators and policy-makers of issues facing the Parkinsons community. |
Introduced three pieces of legislation during the Oregon 2007 Session. |
Passed a Bill in the Oregon Legislature to modify the Patient Bill of Rights for residents in Nursing Homes. Rights now include right to a medically appropriate diet and to care from a staff that has been trained in the resident's disease condition. |
Development of a 5-part Parkinsons disease specific caregiving protocol and training program for voluntary implementation by care facilities throughout the region. |
