PAN Mourns the Loss of Brignal Haines

The Parkinson's Action Network (PAN) mourns the loss of Brignal E. Haines, Jr., who died Thursday, April 3, 2008 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.

"Unfortunately, I never had the honor to meet Brig, but knowing Gerry, I know he was an outstanding man," said Amy Comstock Rick, PAN CEO.  "The Parkinson's disease community has suffered a great loss and our thoughts are with Gerry and her family."

Brignal E. Haines Jr. 68, of Hanover Township, died Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Gino Merli Veterans Center, Scranton, after a long courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.  He was born on August 13, 1939, in Wilkes-Barre, the son of the late Brignal E. and Dorothy (Andrews) Haines.  He was the loving husband of Gerry (Schadle) Haines of Hanover Township.  Brignal received his bachelors degree from Moravian College and later achieved his masters degree in education from Lehigh University.  He worked for various trucking companies as a safety director and terminal manager.  He served in the Navy during the 1960s.  He was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, Walnutport, the Lehigh Valley Traffic Club and its fraternity, Delta Nu Alpha, the Bethlehem M.O.R.A. Club, the Parkinsons Action Network and N.P.F. and the Lehigh Valley Parkinsons support group.  Brignal was a very valuable member to the Parkinsons community, contributing his time and efforts to research for a cure.  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, his son, David C. Haines and his wife Stephanie of Northampton, daughter, Vanessa, wife of Derek Paskaitis of Northampton and two grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy ORourke.  

Services: A Memorial Mass will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, 4112 Mountain View Drive, Walnutport.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the church.  Burial will be private.   Arrangements, Connell Funeral Home, 245 E.
