Michael J. Fox to Attend President's State of the Union Address
The Parkinson's Action Network (PAN) announced that Rep. Jim Langevin (D-R.I.), has invited Michael J. Fox to attend the President's State of the Union Address, as his guest.  The State of the Union is scheduled for Tuesday, January 23, in Washington, D.C.

"I am very pleased that a member of the Parkinson's community will be represented during this historic event," said Amy L. Comstock, CEO, PAN.  "Michael is a true champion of the legislative issues important to the Parkinson's community.  I know he will represent us well."

In a press release from his office, Langevin said, "I have always tried to invite guests to the State of the Union that will help raise greater awareness about important issues facing our nation today," said Langevin. "In 2005, the late Dana Reeve attended as my guest to highlight the importance of pushing embryonic stem cell research forward. I am sure Michael will help to further Chris and Dana's legacy and underscore for the President just how serious I am about pursuing the promise of stem cell research."

Recently, PAN applauded House passage of legislation to expand stem cell research.  Fox, along with PAN advocates nationwide, was very active in his advocacy for the passing of legislation.  He sent a letter to each House member asking that they support the bill.

As the stem cell legislation now moves to the Senate for consideration, PAN and its advocates will continue to push for this crucial legislation.
