Genetic Information Bill Sent to the President!

Genetic Information Bill Sent to the President!
PAN applauds Congress for sending the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) to the President to be signed into law.  GINA will prohibit employers and insurers from discriminating against individuals based on their genetic makeup.  The bill was passed by the Senate last week, 95-0, and today passed the House of Representatives, 414-1.

The protections provided by this bill are important to both individuals already living with Parkinson’s disease and those with genetic risk factors for Parkinson’s and other diseases.  GINA will ensure that health insurance companies can not deny coverage based on an individual’s predisposition to a genetic condition and it will prohibit employers from discriminating on the basis of predictive genetic information.  With the President’s signature, this act will protect the privacy rights of all Americans.

Please thank your Members of Congress for protecting Americans from genetic discrimination.  Click “Take Action" and our system will provide you with a written thank you e-mail.
