CAMR Statement on Human Embryo Cloning Breakthrorugh

The following statement was made by the Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research (CAMR), concerning recent news reports (including the January 18 edition of the Washington Post) that chronicle a recent breakthrough in the cloning of human embryos. The Parkinson’s Action Network (PAN) fully supports this statement. The recent news from Stemagen about cloned human embryos appears to be good science, although it's still early in the process and hasn't been replicated.  Even though this particular study did not derive stem cells, CAMR supports all ethical forms of regenerative medicine, including therapeutic cloning, that seeks to find treatments and cures for the 100 million patients suffering from debilitating diseases and disorders such as cancer, heart disease, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, diabetes, and spinal cord injuries.  CAMR remains vehemently opposed to cloning for reproductive purposes.
