The
following statement was made by the Coalition for the Advancement of Medical
Research (CAMR), concerning recent news reports (including the January 18
edition of the Washington Post) that
chronicle a recent breakthrough in the cloning of human embryos. The Parkinson’s Action Network (PAN) fully
supports this statement.
The recent news from Stemagen about cloned human embryos appears to be good
science, although it's still early in the process and hasn't been
replicated. Even though this particular study did not derive stem cells,
CAMR supports all ethical forms of regenerative medicine, including therapeutic
cloning, that seeks to find treatments and cures for the 100 million patients
suffering from debilitating diseases and disorders such as cancer, heart
disease, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, diabetes, and spinal cord injuries.
CAMR remains vehemently opposed to cloning for reproductive purposes. To
